Naturopathic Doctors vs. Holistic Doctors vs. Integrative Doctors

Naturopathic Doctors

Naturopathic doctors, also known as NDs or Natural Doctors, are often more thorough than traditional physicians when it comes to treating patients. Their vast knowledge of standard Western medicine, pharmacology, and natural therapeutics allows them to investigate, understand and treat the root of the issue, rather simply prescribing medications to temporarily suppress symptoms.

Naturopathic doctors integrate different treatments to support a happy, healthy and active lifestyle. This can include things like nutrition changes, botanical (herbal) medicine, homeopathy,  traditional Chinese medicine, lifestyle counselling, physical medicine and hydrotherapy. Naturopathic doctors look for the underlying cause of illness or disease, rather than focus on removing symptoms. They promote healthy living and well-being.

Though Naturopathic doctors in Calgary are licensed to diagnose and treat disease, they cannot prescribe pharmaceuticals (this is only possible in B.C.). However, doctors in Alberta have access to Bio-identical hormones prescriptions.

Holistic Doctors

Holistic doctors combine conventional medication and alternative therapies to treat patients. They take time to understand and heal the whole body - while still offering some Western medications and minor surgical procedures. This includes examining the body, mind, spirit, and emotions, along with recognising any potentially triggers. Holistic doctors understand that everything is connected, and adjusting the smallest things can decrease negative affects people’s overall health. So, they urge patients to improve your nutrition and monitor your sleep and offer ways to reduce stress. They can provide you with relationship and spiritual counselling, acupuncture, naturopathy, homeopathy, chiropractic care, and massage therapy.

Integrative Medicine Doctors

Integrative Medicine Doctors, also known as Integrative Medical Doctors or Integrative Doctors, consider the whole person and the patient’s unique condition. They inspect the biological, behavioural, psychosocial and environmental influences to begin treating the patient. The patient and integrative medical doctor create a partnership and bond that requires open communication to navigate the issues at hand with different therapeutic approaches.
